Essential Oils - Peppermint

Various Mint species have been grown since ancient times in China and Japan. Evidence of a type of peppermint has been found in Egyptian tombs dating from 1000 BC.

From East to West peppermint has been used to treat: 

  • muscular pain
  • indigestion
  • nausea
  • sore throat
  • diarrhea
  • headaches
  • toothaches
  • cramps 

The British Herbal Pharmacopeia lists peppermint as being useful for:

  • intestinal colic
  • flatulence
  • common cold
  • vomiting during pregnancy

The oil is extracted by steam distillation from the flowering herb. Currently, most exposure to peppermint comes in the form of chewing gum or a breath mint. 

SAFETY DATA – Non-toxic, non-irritant when diluted; possible sensitization due to menthol; use in moderation.
