Essential Oils - Bergamot

Bergamot, a small green or yellow citrus fruit, is named after the Italian city of Bergamot in Lombardy where its oil was first sold. It’s also a major ingredient in Earl Grey tea!

Bergamot oil is extracted via cold press of the peel of the nearly ripe fruit. While it’s long been used as a holistic remedy for fever and worms, recent research suggests bergamot may have a list of applications comparable to lavender, including:

  • insect repellant
  • treatment of insect bites
  • treatment of muscle & joint aches

SAFETY DATA – Bergapten, a compound found in bergamot oil, can cause photosensitivity (sun allergy) if used on the skin. However, the bergamot oil in our products is bergapten-free. Bergapten-free oil is otherwise non-toxic, and non-irritant.
